Ruth Dennis
graduated from Cambridge University in 1981 and spent three years in mixed general practice during which time she developed an interest in radiology. In 1984 she returned to Cambridge to train in imaging, obtaining the R.C.V.S. Certificate in Veterinary Radiology in 1984 and the Diploma in 1985. In 1992 she moved to the Animal Health Trust in Newmarket to establish an imaging unit and to oversee installation of an MRI scanner, which at that time was the first in Europe dedicated to veterinary clinical work. In 1994 she became a de facto Diplomate of the ECVDI and was President 2006-8. At the AHT she was programme director and supervisor for both small and large animal track residency programmes, mentoring 14 residents. On the closure of the AHT in 2020 she moved to Dick White Referrals, where she now works. Ruth is the author or co-author of numerous papers and book chapters in the field of veterinary diagnostic imaging and is the editor and lead author of a textbook, ‘Handbook of Veterinary Radiology and Ultrasound: Techniques and Differential Diagnoses’ (Dennis, Kirberger, Barr and Wrigley) published in April 2010. She is a past recipient of the Blaine Award (BSAVA 2006), the Douglas and Williamson Award (EAVDI 2012) and the Peter Suter Award (ECVDI 2020).
