Rowena
is an animal behaviour and welfare scientist at the Royal Veterinary College, London. Rowena is currently a BBSRC Future Leader Research Fellow, with her research team focusing upon epilepsy and abnormal behaviour in the domestic dog, identifying risk factors for these disorders and developing novel management strategies to improve dog and owner quality of life. Rowena and her team utilise a wide range of research approaches, from behaviour and cognitive testing, physiological measures, accelerometry and EEG through to qualitative methodologies. Rowena holds a first class BSc (Hons) in Animal Behaviour and Welfare from the University of Bristol (2009) and a PhD in Veterinary Science from the Royal Veterinary College (2013). From 2014-2016 Rowena was a postdoctoral researcher with Prof Holger Volk, working on a number of projects including dietary therapies for canine epilepsy and developing the RVC Pet Epilepsy Tracker smartphone app. In 2016 Rowena was awarded the UFAW Young Animal Welfare Scientist of the Year award. She has published over fifty papers in international peer reviewed journals, presented her research at international meetings, and is an editorial board member for Scientific Reports.
