Brian Scansen

Brian Scansen DVM, MS, DACVIM (Cardiology)

is originally from Washington state in the United States. He attended veterinary school at Michigan State University and graduated in 2004 with DVM and MS degrees with high honors. He went on to complete an internship in Small Animal Medicine and Surgery at The Ohio State University and stayed at OSU for a residency in Cardiology. He then completed a fellowship in Interventional Radiology and Endoscopy at the University of Pennsylvania and the Animal Medical Center (New York, New York). He served as an Assistant Professor on the faculty of the OSU College of Veterinary Medicine from 2008 to 2015 before moving to Colorado State University where he has been an Associate Professor of Cardiology and service head of the Cardiology & Cardiac Surgery Section since 2015. He has published over 200 original journal articles, book chapters, proceedings, and scientific abstracts related to cardiac disease in animals. He serves on the Editorial Board of the Journal of Veterinary Cardiology and is a Founding Member of the Veterinary Interventional Radiology & Interventional Endoscopy Society. Dr. Scansen’s research interests include congenital heart disease in animals, advanced cardiac imaging, and minimally invasive therapeutics.
