Neuropathic pain and itch – a clinical syndrome of pain or pruritis (respectively) due to abnormal somatosensory processing in the peripheral or central nervous system are poorly understood conditions. This lecture will delve into the known pathogenesis and common causes and influences. Diagnostic and management pathways will be discussed with a particular focus on Chiari malformation and syringomyelia, Feline Orofacial Pain syndrome, tail mutilation, mutilation post injury and orthopaedic surgery and Feline Hyperaesthesia syndrome.
